Matt steps in to dance on Strictly

Scarborough dancer Matt Flint made a last-minute appearance on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend to stand in for injured pro Artem Chigvintsev.

Matt, who shot to fame after winning So You Think You Can Dance earlier this year, has been working behind the scenes on the hit BBC show as a choreographer. But he stepped out in front of the cameras on the Sunday night show to take Artem’s place in the male professional dance.

Scarborough dance star Matt Flint has landed a high-profile choreography role on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 29-year-old, who won the second series of the BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance talent contest and £50,000 prize earlier this year and recently performed in the finale of the American version of the show, says he is thrilled to have landed the role.

The 29 year old former Raincliffe School pupil was back in his home town following his victory on hit BBC TV show So You Think You Can Dance. Matt has been heading up a series of workshops focusing on styles such as jazz and tap, which have proved popular.

Scarborough dancer Matt Flint won the top title in hit BBC TV show So You Think You Can Dance. After 12 weeks’ competing the 29-year-old tap dancer beat the last three competitors in the final on Saturday to take the crown.

Matt, who is a former Raincliffe School Pupil, is now set to travel to Hollywood to perform in the US version of the show.

SYTYCD final draws 3.5m

SATURDAY: So You Think You Can Dance limped out of the BBC1 schedule as the grand finale drew 2.3m fewer viewers than last year.

The 19 Entertainment-produced dance show has posted disappointing figures over its 12-week run and the final round of the contest attracted an average audience of 3.45m (18.11%) from 7.15pm to 8.20pm.

Matt Flint has been crowned champion of So You Think You Can Dance 2011 after seeing off competition from three other dancers in the final.

The 29-year-old, whose speciality is tap dancing, beat 30-year-old jazz dancer Luke Jackson into second place, with fellow finalists Katie Love and Kirsty Swain finishing third and fourth respectively.

Jazz dancer Luke Jackson (30) is one of four contestants who battled their way through the semi-finals and will now be going head-to-head on Saturday to win the show, the winner receiving £50,000 and an invitation to dance on the US version of the show.

The BBC is to axe ratings flop So You Think You Can Dance. Judge Arlene Phillips, 68, has now lost her second big Saturday night show after being chopped by Strictly Come Dancing in 2009.

BBC1 had high hopes for the programme but ratings never took off in its second series, which ends on Saturday - falling below three million at times.
