Robbie Savage has offered to come out of retirement and play for Rangers for free The controversial Welshman has already texted Ibrox supremo Charles Green about his plan.

Savage — who starred in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing after quitting football last summer — said: “It would be a privilege to play for a great club like Rangers. “I might be mad thinking I can, but if they are desperate for players, I’ll go up there and play for nothing.”

Strictly minor changes: but Ola to return

Katya Virshilas has been axed from Strictly Come Dancing - but the rest of the professional cast will remain on the BBC ballroom hit. The Canadian, who danced with Antonio Banderas in 2006 film Take The Lead, joined the show in 2009.

She finished eighth with cricketer Phil Tufnell in her first series and was knocked out in the semi-final with rugby star Gavin Henson the following year.

Robbie's Strictly dance complaints dismissed

Former footballer Robbie Savage's hip-thrusting performance on Strictly Come Dancing last year did not breach guidelines, the BBC Trust has ruled.

Almost 500 people complained to the BBC over the routine, danced to Michael Jackson's Bad, in November. The BBC Trust's editorial standards committee said it understood viewers may have found the routine "tasteless and vulgar".

Robbie Savage was devastated today after the death of his father Colin, who suffered from a rare brain condition. The Daily Mirror columnist and Strictly Come Dancing star was by the bedside as his dad, 64, passed away in hospital.

In an emotional tribute, Robbie said his Colin was “my hero and my best friend” and added on Twitter: “You only have one dad and mine has been the best ever.” He urged his followers to appreciate their parents, and added: “If you’re with your dad now give him a kiss and tell him you love him, cos they won’t be here forever.”

TV Biz revealed yesterday that the popular husband and wife — who have been in every annual Strictly tour — are axed from next year's live shows around the country. Now acid-tongued Craig, the live tour's director who has overall control for the show, has waded in and blasted the dancers.
