Arlene, 69, was replaced by Alesha Dixon, 33, in 2009 and in April this year ballet legend Darcey Bussell, 43,
was announced as Alesha’s replacement since her move to Britain’s Got Talent.

Maestro made Winner Craig even 'tougher'

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood says his experience winning celebrity conducting competition Maestro could make him even "tougher" on the contestants in the ballroom show.

The star, who beat mathematician Marcus du Sautoy in the finale of the BBC Two show, said he had "no concept" of how difficult it was going to be to pick up the baton. He said: "Oh my God it was horrendously difficult. I thought it was going to be virtually impossible to become a conductor in such a short space of time."

He told Radio Times: “When I first came into this competition, I thought, ‘I’m a dancer. I know about timing. I can just sway my arms about and that will be enough.’ But conducting is hard. I’m in massages every second day!”

Not happy with trying to steal the show, Craig Revel Horwood is now trying to steal Christmas. The acid-tongued judge dressed up as the Grinch in a festive special of BBC1 favourite Strictly Come Dancing. But unlike the grumpy Dr Seuss creation – who stole Christmas – Craig, 46, appears to be having a whale of a time.

Fellow judges Len Goodman, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli could not contain their laughter as he showed off his new furry fingers. With his face painted a lurid shade of green, he proceeded to pass comment on the dancing of the festive contestants.

Strictly Come Dancing has won this year's battle of the reality shows because The X Factor is past it, reckons Craig Revel Horwood.And in another cheeky dig, he branded show winners Little Mix average.

The bitchy Strictly judge spoke out after viewing figures revealed the BBC1 dance show won five times on Saturday nights — as The X Factor recorded its lowest ever audience for four years. Strictly even took the ratings crown four nights in a row, right up to last Saturday when it had 12.3million viewers, 500,000 more than X Factor's 11.8million.

TV Biz revealed yesterday that the popular husband and wife — who have been in every annual Strictly tour — are axed from next year's live shows around the country. Now acid-tongued Craig, the live tour's director who has overall control for the show, has waded in and blasted the dancers.
