Camilla Dallerup

Former Strictly Come Dancing champion, Camilla Dallerup delivers a cardio workout full of complicated steps, chasses and charisma.

Split into six sections and accompanied by personal trainer Steve Richardson, Camilla leads the intense programme which combines Latin dance steps and cardio moves to create a comprehensive 70 minute treat to tackle the post-Christmas bulge.

The DVD begins with a Warm-Up preparing you for the workout ahead and also introduces the basic moves that will follow, giving a sneak-peak of what’s to come which will have you hooked on this fast-paced exercise extravaganza.

Next is Latin Combat which combines boxing with Cha Cha and Salsa moves for an exciting burst of energy in a complex, but manageable routine to get your heart racing.

Jive Kick follows in what was definitely my favourite section even though Camilla calls it the ‘toughest’ part of the DVD. Incorporating basic, and slightly more advanced jive moves alongside fast-paced kick sections, this really gets you working up a sweat in an enjoyable workout that flew by.

Next is Booty Blitz which was perhaps the easiest section to follow and hopefully worked wonders on my lower half with its sequence of lunges and squats.

Core Fusion is normally the section of workout DVDs which everyone dreads; however, this was rather refreshing and very easy to follow throughout. A tough workout to help with posture and abs, including easier alternatives was led by Steve Richardson. Most encouraging was the genuine enthusiasm shown by Camilla who really gives the impression that she actually does the same exercises she was showing us.

And the DVD finishes with a Cool Down section, similar to the Warm-Up, completing the fun workout led by encouraging presenters full of enthusiasm managing to smile through the pain.

Overall, this is a fun workout DVD combining some basic Latin dance steps with a rather full-on cardio workout. At times it was hard to keep up with as there was a tendency for announcing the steps but not actually explaining how to do them, you are just expected to follow. However, the multiple repeats definitely helps you pick them up and I’m sure practice makes perfect.

What was most encouraging was the combination of steps which was tricky and fresh compared to other workout DVDs. The fact that the routines are quite challenging encourages you to want to do it again, but they’re not too tricky that you feel they are obtainable.

During each section there is a dancer doing a simpler version of all the steps to ease you in and the routines are certainly catered for dance beginners and those with a basic knowledge of Latin moves, however the routines are noticeably fitness-oriented as opposed to dance-focussed.

The only thing that was missing is the glitz and glamour Camilla is normally associated with. Now don’t get me wrong, she still looked fabulous in her workout clothes, but I would’ve liked to have seen costumes reminiscent of her Strictly heyday, but apart from that, I’ll definitely be trying this workout again.
