Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley are facing the chop from struggling breakfast show Daybreak. A source said the pair were told they may no longer be needed during a meeting with ITV chief Peter Fincham.

Station bosses alarmed at the show’s ratings slump have brought in experienced producer Karl Newton to arrest the slide. Said to be ruthless in his approach, he will be joined by new editor David Kermode.
