Slow weekend as Christmas battle looms
Posted by admin on December 20th, 2004 - 2.12pm

It was the calm before the storm last weekend, with none of the terrestrial channels rolling out their Christmas ratings big guns against one another. And with X-Factor and Strictly Come Dancing both over, it could be said there were slim pickings for weekend viewers.
But there were still some decent rating scores on Saturday, ITV1s Celebrity Stars in their Eyes Christmas Special (7.30pm) notched a 35.2% share and 7.7 million viewers on average.
More celebrity shenanigans followed at 8.30pm with Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Celebrity Special, winning a share of 31% and 7.2 million viewers.
BBC One rolled out its traditional Saturday night favourites as well Casualty at 8.30pm was watched by 7.5 million on average, a share of 32.5%.
At 9.20pm Billy Connollys World Tour of New Zealand clocked a 21.3% share and 4.8 million viewers.
BBC Ones main event of Sunday evening Test the Nation: The National 2004 Test started at 8.50pm and recorded a share of 21.7% and 5.6 million viewers.
The second instalment of the national quiz came at 10.35pm and this time won 26.9% share and 4.5 million viewers.
ITV1 fought off the national test with Agatha Christies Miss Marple sleuth drama it started at 9pm and over two hours won 32.3% share and 7.9 million viewers on average.
Channel 4s efforts for Sunday evening seemed somewhat lacklustre in comparison. Not many people wanted to know What We Still Dont Know (8pm), as it achieved 1.5 million average audience and 5.6% share.
And after all the media coverage people may have already had enough The Band Aid Story Do They Know Its Christmas? was watched by 1.7 million on average and scored 6.7% share.
Five opted for a Sunday night movie Fled, starring Lawrence Fishburne, at 9pm won 6.4% share and 1.5 million viewers on average.
