Torvill verses Dean on the Strictly dance floor

Dancing On Ice stars Torvill and Dean are swapping the rink for the ballroom in a Strictly Come Dancing special - against each other. The duo, whose ITV show is being axed after the next series, will be taking part in a one-off performance for the BBC's Children in Need appeal next month.

Figure skating champions Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill are pairing up with James Jordan and Aliona Vilani from Strictly to perfect their routine.

Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley have been asked to take skating lessons so they can perform in Dancing On Ice. Bosses hope to boost ratings by getting the presenters on to the ice.

Schofield and Bleakley were asked to have intensive training after viewing figures slumped to just over five million in the last series. At its height, the show has pulled in an audience of more than 11million.

Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter has admitted that she ignores her boyfriend, co-star James Atherton, when they are both at work in a bid to remain professional.

Jorgie, who has played Theresa McQueen in the show since 2008, told Inside Soap magazine that she can't help feeling awkward when she is around James - who plays Will Savage - on set, even though their characters are now dating.

Jorgie Porter has revealed the new series of Hollyoaks Later is set to "get seriously rude". The soap beauty said: “It’s like rude rude. The kind of stuff that you might see and it might be awkward if you ever see me again.”

Olympic rowing champion Steve Williams has been crowned winner of a special edition of Dancing On Ice made to celebrate the forthcoming games.

The gold medallist, who triumphed with the British rowing team at the Games in 2004, joined a line-up of champion athletes who took to the ice for this one-off show.

Dancing On Ice judge Robin Cousins has revealed he was secretly in agony when he won his Olympic gold medal – as he prepares to take to the ice to celebrate London 2012. He went on to deliver a superb performance at the 1980 Games but had to retire after problems with his knees left him in permanent pain and needing EIGHT operations.

Now Robin has been persuaded to skate again for the first time in 12 years for Dancing On Ice Goes Gold, featuring Olympic medallists including Olga Korbut, Tessa Sanderson and Colin Jackson.

Glenn Hoddle in talks to appear on DOI

Dancing on Ice bosses are desperate to sign up ex-England football manager Glenn Hoddle. Producers of the ITV show are in talks with the former Tottenham player, 54, about being one of the celeb skaters in next year’s series.

Other stars being auditioned include ex-boxing world champ Steve Collins, 47, Winter Olympics gold medallist Amy Williams, 29, and Daily Mirror gardening expert Diarmuid Gavin, 48.

Time has been kind to Jayne Torvill – she says she can still fit into the famous Bolero costume in which she won Olympic gold. The skating champ, 54, reckons she is slimmer and fitter than when she wowed the world with partner Christopher Dean at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984.

Athletics star-turned-amateur ice-skater Colin Jackson has confessed that he and Dancing On Ice Goes Gold partner Frankie Poultney can't stop giggling during training.

Former Olympic silver medallist Colin is taking part in a special one-off edition of the ITV1 show to mark the beginning of the Games with fellow athletes including javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson and rower Steve Williams.

Looking Bleak: DOI viewers left cold by Christine

Christine Bleakley has been blamed for Dancing on Ice’s ratings slump after it emerged she leaves the majority of fans cold. A damning ITV survey of the show’s audience found just 45% admitted to liking her.

It comes after viewing figures plummeted from 11.7 million for the final in 2008 to 7.3 million this year. But despite their findings, ITV bosses plan to bring Christine back to Dancing on Ice next year.

Torvill and Dean to dance with Olympic torch

The Olympic flame visits Robin Hood country and will be carried on ice by Olympians Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean on day 41 of the relay. The torch is travelling 100 miles from Lincoln to Nottingham on Thursday, ending with an evening celebration at Old Market Square.

Torchbearer Laura Graves, 16, from Grantham, will take the flame to the Robin Hood statue in Sherwood Forest. Torvill and Dean, both from Nottingham, are the final bearers of the day.

The 32-year-old, who plays David Metcalfe in the ITV farming soap, will escort Miss Battle of Flowers Rebecca Houzé – the daughter of a farmer from St Ouen – when she takes centre stage at this year’s parades on 9 and 10 August.

Soap star Matt Lapinskas is rumored to be joining the next series of Dancing on Ice. He may be packing his bags and leaving the Square in the coming weeks, but it would seem there is plenty of work ahead for the soap actor who plays Anthony Moon.

According to the Daily Star Lapinskas impressed producers of the ice-skating show and will confirm his involvement one his last scenes on Eastenders have aired.

Model turned bodybuilder Jodie Marsh and EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas are being tipped to take part in the next series of Dancing On Ice - with the show also set to undergo a shake-up.

According to the Daily Star both Jodie and Matt have already auditioned for the show, which will return early next year, and producers - who are looking to bring some flamboyant personalities to the next series - are said to be keen on both of them.

Cancer scare for Christine Bleakley

Christine Bleakley has revealed that she faced a cancer scare. The 33-year-old Dancing On Ice host told a tabloid newspaper that she had to have three moles removed.

She told The Sun: "I had my moles checked, just because I thought it was a good thing to do, and I discovered I had to have three removed." Bleakley told the newspaper that she was relieved to discover that doctors gave her the all-clear.
